|Rick Stephens to be Inducted into AHS Athletic Hall of Fame|

Friday, Feb. 16, 2018, Rick Stephens will be inducted into the Andover High School Athletic Hall of Fame during halftime of the boys' basketball game. Stephens is a 1966 graduate of Andover High School. He competed in football and track during his high school career. Stephens was a nose guard and offensive tackle for the Trojan football team earning All-League honors both his junior and senior seasons as well as Honorable Mention All-State his senior year.
He continued his education at Pratt Community College after high school, then received a scholarship to play football at Oklahoma University. He then transferred to Wichita State University for the 1969 football season. His football career came to an end with the crash of the WSU team plane on Oct. 2, 1970, outside of Denver. Stephens was one of nine survivors but sustained injuries serious enough to end his football career.
He later graduated from WSU with a degree in education and proceeded to become a teacher, coach and administrator in the Wichita School District. After 33 years in education, he retired in 2005.
