This entry level course is available to students after having taken the prerequisite 'Introduction to Art' course.  Ceramics 1 will introduce students to the discipline of ceramics through various hands-on projects, study of general ceramic history and developing self expressive and individual problem solving skills.  The majority of hands-on projects will be hand-construction-based.   All aspects of the studio process, through glazing and firing will be explored with an emphasis on safety and attention to procedure and craftsmanship.

Daily evaluation with a strong emphasis on active, visible participation is the cornerstone of the grading process.  Project-related written evaluations and end of semester comprehensive testing also factor in to the overall evaluation process.  A student-created digital portfolio is started that can follow you throughout future ceramic courses.
