Juniors
Welcome, juniors!
2 years down, 2 years to go! Junior year is when your course options expand to allow you the opportunity to take AP and/or college courses. Remember to stay aware of your own path to success during and after high school as you decide which courses are for you. Now is the time to start visiting and exploring post-secondary options if you have not already started. The helpful checklist below can help as you prepare for a successful junior year at AHS.
Junior checklist
- Continually updated your IPS Portfolio throughout the school year. Remember that this plan is located in your Google Classroom Class of 2027 located in your Google Classroom Class of 2027
- Make sure you are taking the classes you need to achieve your high school goals by comparting requirements on tab one to your course plans on tab 3.
- Decided whether to AP or Dual Credit (or both).
- The AP Credit Transfer Guide the bottom of this page may help, but your teachers and counselors are great resources as well.
- Stay or get involved!
- Continue to keep a list of your involvement and volunteer hours on tabs 6 (Experiences) and 7 (Activities) of your IPS Portfolio
- Check the Events & Post-Secondary Off-Site Visits page of the school website (listed on the counselor pages).
- Take the PSAT, ACT, ACT WorkKeys, SAT, or ASVAB
- Learn more about which test is right for you by visiting the Testing Information page in the counselor section of the school website.
- Meet with your counselor
- Your counselor can help you plan the steps you need to take towards your goals after high school. You can request a meeting HERE.
- Search for post-secondary options and visit schools or programs you're interested in.

- Learn about your testing needs depending on your next step after high school
- AHS Testing Information
- Explore Careers, Schools, and Majors in your Xello account to learn more about your future options.
- Know your Grade Point Average (GPA) and what you need to get where you want to go next.
- Make or update your resume.
- Put it in your Google Drive so you can share it with teachers or your counselors when you start asking for recommendations next year!
- Learn about your options to pay for college after high school.
- Understand the process to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Colleges encourage everyone to complete the FAFSA even if they don't plan to use the federal money that might be offered. Many institutions use the FAFSA to determine eligibility for their own financial aid packages.
- The AHS Scholarships and Opportunities page lists scholarships by their deadlines. Many won't be available to you until senior year, but it is a good resource to be aware of now.
- AHS partners with VU Scholarships. Make sure you opt-in during the school year to understand what merit scholarships you might be eligible based on your GPA and/or ACT scores.
- Understand the process to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
